Can an adult actually learn Greek??

I always like to try to learn a little bit of the local language when I travel abroad. And usually, I’m pretty successful at a few phrases. But Greek? The alphabet is too different. My usual standbys of Rosetta Stone and Babbel were of no help, because I’m not really going to need to say “the women are reading” or “the boys are eating.” I just need a little, hello, goodbye, thank you. So I found this book at the library that goes through the pronunciation of the alphabet, which I am hoping will be helpful while trying to sound out things like street signs and menu items.
