Day 8 — Our last island, Mykonos

It’s a slow, easy day today. Caroline and I are off to a somewhat early start : out of the hotel by 8:15 to the port to drop off the rental car and wait for our ferry to Mykonos. We are very early for both, so we walk along the port area for some exercise.

After turning over the keys to the rental, we literally sit waiting for our ship to come in. I feel like I know how this works now, having one whole ferry experience under my belt. The crowd is much lighter than we expected, and we board swiftly. We find our seats,,only to realize they are the very first seats in this section of the boat, so there is no window; but there is a wall in front of us. No way are we sitting there so we choose a couple of other seats and wait to see if we get kicked out, we don’t.

It’s a quick ride to Mykonos, only 40 minutes, so we are soon disembarking and looking for our next rental pick up. When we get the contract situated, Caroline drives us to our hotel. Although it’s too soon to check in, we are hoping we can stash our luggage and the car at the hotel while we explore Little Venice, so-called because the buildings are built right up to the waterline. Having never been to Venice, to me it resembles Amsterdam, except with the sea rather than canals.

Caroline and I grab lunch and strategize about our time on. Mykonos. Our planned sea kayaking trip has been canceled for tomorrow, so we need to find a way to fill our time.

After lunch we walk around town, taking in the small beach, the cruise ships (and associated passengers), the windmills, and the amazing clarity of the sea.

We head back to the hotel where our room is ready, with an unexpected upgrade to a suite. Having been out in the sun and wind, I take the opportunity for a quick catnap while Caroline reads up on our adventure for tomorrow, Delos.

Soon it’s time for dinner at the rooftop restaurant and a sunset view from the pool. Never the night owls, we are soon yawning and getting ready for another sleep.
