Our second day in Athens was all about history. Well, after a breakfast of bougatsa and freddo cappuccino.

After fueling up, we walked down to the Ancient Agora. We weren’t sure what to expect, but the museum helped set the stage for what we were about to see. It was mind blowing to see structures that were built in the 6th century BC, some in ruins, some still standing. I’ve been doing a lot of Virginia history tourism in honor of Americas 250th anniversary, and now I feel like we are just a little newborn country.

We left to grab some lunch and do some shopping, and then the finale of our day was a 4 hour guided tour of the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. this tour was probably the best money spent so far. Our tour guide, Margarita, was highly knowledgeable: a teacher of ancient and modern Greek literature, tour guide, and an archaeologist, to boot. I never would have processed all the information in the museum just by looking at it…she really brought it to life.

After two hours in the museum, we walked over to the Acropolis, where Margarita continued to share stories of Ancient Greeks and fun facts about the architecture.

On to dinner and a flight in the morning to Santorini!
